Jakarta – Kapendam XVII / Cenderawasih Lt. Col. Arm Reza Nur Patria denied that there was a gun battle with an armed criminal group (KKB) in the Ilaga mountains, Papua, on Friday, April 23. The TNI denied that two of its members were killed in the incident.

“On April 23, 2021 there was no shooting contact between members of the TNI and KSB in Ilaga, Puncak Regency. The information stating that 2 TNI members were victims of gunfire is not true,” said Reza, when contacted, Sunday (25/4 / 2021).

He emphasized that the TNI-Polri are in Ilaga, Puncak Regency, actively carrying out security patrols to create a conducive situation in the area.

“Let’s pray together, hopefully the situation in Puncak Regency will be more conducive so that community activities will return to normal,” he said.

It is known, West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) spokesman Sebby Sambo said there was gunfire with TNI members on Friday (23/4) at 01.00-05.20 local time. He reported that 2 TNI members were killed in the incident.

“During the gunfire, two TNI members were victims and their bodies are still in the mountains and have not yet been evacuated. My troops are still on standby at one point in each place,” said Sebby Sambo.

Previously, a series of incidents of KKB attacks in Papua occurred recently. One of them is on Sunday (18/4). A mobile meatball vendor in Sugapa, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua, was hacked by an unknown person suspected of being an armed criminal group (KKB).

The victim, named Asep Saputra (50), was severely stabbed. Intan Jaya Police Chief AKBP Sandi Sultan confirmed the incident. Intan Jaya Police have arrested the person suspected of hacking the meatball maker.

“We’ve secured two people, we secured it at dawn at around 5:15 WIT,” Sandi said when asked for confirmation. Monday (19/4/2021).
