  • What is the official status of West Papua? The official status of West Papua is a province of Indonesia. Please check encyclopaedia Britannica and Wikipedia.
  • Why is there a separatist movement? West Papua was a bilateral matter between the Netherlands and Indonesia regarding an incomplete process of decolonization of the Netherlands East Indies. West Papua was neither a separate entity nor a non-self-governing territory detached from the Netherlands East Indies. The problem arose when the Netherlands insisted on maintaining its presence in the western half New Guinea. The West Papua separatist movement was born from the Netherlands strategy to maintain their presence in the region. Such evil strategy was failed from the beginning and the Netherlands left West Papua half heartedly. Unfortunately, a small number of West Papuan were misled and unilaterally declared independence with no single country in the world acknowledge it. The leadership of the failed efforts was transferred from the first generation to the next and as separatist elites, they remain exclusive. Free West Papua is destined to fail.
  • Why do we talk about it today? A small number of West Papuan elites failed to accept historical dan political reality of West Papua. On discovering that they had been deceived by the Netherlands, they broke off all good things about being Indonesian and started a resistance movement. Today, conflict provocateurs like some Australian green leftist, the Philippines communist groups, less than 10 British leftist, slutty lawyer, and some human rights activists are campaigning too far for West Papua independence without thinking about the consequences to the majority West Papuan who against the idea of separatism.

West Papua remain part of Indonesia

There is no reason for separating West Papua from Indonesia. West Papua and Papua provinces can only be understood as a part of Indonesia. Neither History nor politics nor culture justify a secession of West Papua. Indonesia accommodates all cultures within its territory by national motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) similar to One People One Soul. Most West Papuans think of themselves as Indonesians.

To be sure, a part of the West Papuans desire separatism and thereby a question has been raised: Don’t those West Papuans who desire an separate West Papua, deserve an answer? This question is not about the rights of those West Papuans who want separation, but about the rights of all West Papuans and all Indonesians.

It is not a question of the right to self-determination because historically it has been decided lawfully binded, there is no right to secession in West Papua; neither by taking into consideration International Law nor Indonesia domestic law.

It is a question of the rights of all Papuans that want to continue living in their own country, Indonesia. West Papuans have the right as Indonesians to live in West Papua and any other provinces in Indonesia as citizens and not as foreigners.

I hope this brief explanation is enough to explain why West Papua should remain part of Indonesia

  1. West Papua is a part of Indonesia, not a different entity. So, actually, the question we have to answer is: “Should Indonesia be divided into two different countries, West Papua being one of these countries?” My answer is big “NO”.
