WAMENA – Special Autonomy (Otsus) for Papua as mandated by Law No. 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province aims to develop and prosper the Papuan people. It is currently being discussed between the pros and cons of the Papuan people, therefore one of the community leaders of the Jayawijaya Mountains, Agus Huby, who is the Head of the Barisan Merah Putih in Jayawijaya, shared his opinion in Wamena on Thursday (6/8).
He expressed his gratitude to the central government for providing Otsus to Papua Province in accordance with Law No. 21 of 2001.
“We, the people of Papua, would like to express our gratitude to the central government because Papua has been given the special autonomy. We Papuans can enjoy the development we can feel at this time, and have benefited greatly from special autonomy”, he said.
On this occasion we also convey that the Jayawijaya people fully accept and support the implementation of Otsus, and we ask that truth, justice and honesty be presented in the land of Papua in order to create peace, so that development in various fields can be carried out safely.
“Our hope is that when conditions are safe, then we can explore the potentials in Papua to develop Papua, especially Wamena. So that we can be independent and not continue to depend on the central government, “he said.
Huby continued to convey to the central government to continue Special Autonomy and we declare Papua is safe, and continue development in the land of Papua with Otsus as we have felt so far.
“We thank you for the development that has been carried out so far, and we hope it can be continued, such as the construction of roads that connect districts and provinces that are not yet connected,” he said.
Finally, his party asked for the further management of the special autonomy fund to be closely monitored, so that the results are visible and the community knows their use and is not misused. (Luska)
